Affinity Groups

AFP Silicon Valley Chapter is proud to announce the formation of a series of Affinity Groups for 2011.  A survey of our membership earlier this year revealed considerable interest in more in-depth discussions on major gifts, grantwriting, board development and other topics.  Several senior members have stepped forward and volunteered to host these meetings and serve as facilitators, and we have dates and locations set for January.

We envision these groups meeting quarterly or semi-monthly, with the schedule to be determined by each facilitator in consultation with their group.  These groups are for members only, but members may bring a guest on a one-time basis, with facilitator approval. 

The format should be decided at the first meeting by the group and can include:

  • Agendas
  • Round Robin discussions
  • Sharing of tips and tools
  • Guest speakers
  • Networking time
  • Small group discussions

What the Affinity Groups are not:

  • Counseling sessions
  • Job search or resume building
  • Recruitment fairs

We currently have four groups – two focused on major gifts, one on grantwriting, and one for our north county and peninsula members with topics to vary according to input from the members.  Some groups are near capacity.  If you would like to join one of these groups, please contact for referral to the appropriate facilitator.

As we move forward, we hope to recruit more facilitators and organize groups around other topics of interest.  Questions about specific groups should be directed to the facilitator.
