Professional Development Financial Assistance

It is the goal of AFP Silicon Valley Chapter  to support the professional development of its members. One way AFP SVC achieves this goal is by providing financial assistance, or "Scholar Dollars", for professional development and scholarships for AFP membership.

ELIGIBILITY & RULES

  1. Applicants for Professional Development Financial Assistance should: 
  2.    a. Be employed by or an independent consultant for a public benefit corporation. 
    b. Dedicate at least 50% of their time to fundraising.
    c. Be a member of AFP SVC.
  3. Depending on funds available, AFP SVC will provide up to 50% of the registration cost, or fee for:
       a. AFP SVC Fundraising School
       b. Workshops, conferences and seminars related to development offered by recognized organizations, including accredited institutions
       c. AFP International Conference 
       d. AFP SVC Workshop
       e. AFP SVC Mentoring Program
       f. Study guides or courses for accreditation (CFRE, ACFRE, AHP, or equivalent)
  4. The balance of any fees, or registration costs, as well as any affiliated travel expenses are the responsibility of the individual or their employer.
  5. Individuals receiving financial assistance for professional development will uphold the Ethical Standards of Philanthropy as established by AFP International.
  6. Individuals receiving financial assistance for professional development may be asked to share their training/educational experience with AFP SVC members through a newsletter article, a short program presentation, through the mentoring program, or other vehicles as appropriate.


ELIGIBILITY & RULES FOR MEMBERSHIP SCHOLARSHIPS

  1. Membership Scholarships are available for fundraising professionals who are:
         a. Employed by a public benefit corporation,
         b. And dedicate at least 50% of their time to fundraising.
  2. Scholarships will not exceed $125 per applicant per year for no more than two years with the balance to be paid by the applicant or his/her employer.
  3. Individuals receiving Membership Scholarships will uphold the Ethical Standards of Philanthropy as established by AFP International.


APPLICATION PROCEDURES

  1. Application forms are available by clicking on the links below.
  2. Applications for Professional Development Financial Assistance or Membership Scholarships are due by the first of each month.
  3. Applicants will be notified by the end of that same month.
  4. Applicants for professional development must submit proof of payment to the AFP SVC administrator for reimbursement, but need not submit this until after they have been notified.
  5. Individuals are eligible for financial assistance one time a year, but they may receive a membership scholarship and professional development financial assistance in the same year.
